Sunfire Signature power amp current source outputs

Hi,

I was recently reading up on Bob Carver's tracking downconverter Sunfire Signature amps, in my search for an amplifier that can handle low impedence loads. I was looking for an amp with plenty of juice and capable driving my 2 Ohm DVC subwoofer, but that's another story.

Anyway, this particular review revealed that the current source outputs simply had 1 ohm resistors in series in the signal path, and is responsible for creating the 'tube-like' sound of the current source output terminals, versus the voltage source ouputs, which have low 0.01 ohm impedance.

Sunfire recommends biamping with the current source terminals connected to the mid and tweeter, for a warm midrange, and the voltage output to the woofer, for the tight, solid state bass sound.

Can we just do the same with any amp, or any speakers for that matter, stick a 1 ohm series resistor, and voila, warm 'tube' sound?

Am i missing something here? Maybe there is something in the output circuit that is not revealed, in addition to the 1 ohm resistor.

At the very least, i would have thought that the 1 ohm series resistor will have an L-pad effect on the mids and highs, causing a mismatch in the levels with the woofer.

Views and comments much appreciated! I would very much like to try this just to see how it sounds!
