Yesterday, I paralleled the BYV ... fast recovery diodes in the power supplys of my dac with 0.1 uf military ceramic caps.
At first when I listened the modded dac, the sound had greater detail but the soundstage disappeared, sound was more front with greater articulation and detail. Tonight I listened again and it is the same. I thought that breaking in the new caps could be the problem. Can I conclude that low trr fast recovery diodes doesn't need to be paralleled with caps and it can be worse to add caps over them ? Thanks for your help. |

I wouldn't expect low Shottky or Trr diodes to require caps and addition or deletion certainly would have no effect on "articulation" or "soundstaging" or other such subjective measurements. The human ear and perceptions change for a number of reasons from hour to hour. Far more than well designed electronics. Sorry if I'm on my soapbox, but I've one too many articles by Robert Harley in Absolute Sound. I'd leave the caps in place. They won't do any harm... |

use your scope to check if there is any ripple/ringing/pulsing on the DC supply.
