Default Avnet.com experience

I tried to order some 2SK1058 on Sept 8th & to avoid the international shipping of $25 was getting them posted to a fellow DIYA inmate for onward postage to me in Ireland.

But they have many security questions to answer when placing an order & didn't like the address of the card holder being different to the delivery address - haven't heard from them since they emailed me about this.

Oh, BTW, not having heard back from Avnet, I cancelled my order. I also noticed that they had sneaked in an extra charge on the order of $20 - don't know what for? - the international shipping charge is $25? 2SK1058 are $5.34 each - I ordered 10 - order total came to $61.40 (shipping to US address + Taxes, I guess?). Looking at the copy of the order they sent me, total is $81.40. I have queried this with them.

All in all not a good experience trying to order through them. Has anybody else had similar experiences?

BTW, I've ordered through Mouser & Digikey with no problems whatsoever!

I just got a reply from Avnet and this is what they said:

Quote:
I have cancelled your order, we did not charge your credit card it was only an auth. The system will always auth more then what your order is worth just in case shipping charges exceed the amount given. This order had a shipping charge of 8.00, plus parts. Thank You for Choosing Avnet Express!
As the shipping method I chose was USPS, I find this strange that they don't seem to know their own national postal services charges. Mouser or Digikey don't have this problem. I wasn't notified until now that this extra $20 charge was sitting on my order.

They still didn't say when they were going to authorise/ship the parts (they are ex-stock according to their site) now 8 days after the order was placed.

Has anybody else experienced such a treatment from them?
