A simple Capacitor smoothed power supply. I am coming from the land of Tubes whereby we use Choke input power supplies. The noted 'recommended' transformer voltages, with Amps labs amp kits was aligned with simple high value (60,000 uF) capacitors for the supplies.

350 Watt into 8 Ohm 600 Watt into 4 Ohm ... with upgrade for 1000 Watt into 4 Ohm You mean perhaps, need a lot of PSU capacitance filtering. Any Class AB amplifier putting out more than 100 Watt will need a lot of caps in power supply. Amplifiers where not all need so much are lower wattage. And maybe some Class-D modules. -------------------------------------------------------- Michael Chua of www.ampslab.com is being one www.diyaudio.com member. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/membe...o&userid=74629 He has been around today 2008-09-15, and he has read you new topic ... -------------------------------------------------------- About www.ampslab.com I recall one time very long ago, he had some amplifier which was not 100% stable. But after several here in forum told him that amplifier was not safe, he removed that model from his website. Today, he only have safe & sound amplifiers. I think Besides, Michael has got one of the best services for Diy Audio people, when comes to Power Transistors: - BJT High Power (Sanken) - MOSFET Power - Lateral MOS Power (Renesas.com Power MOSFETs http://www.ampslab.com/components.htm http://www.ampslab.com/components_powermos.htm He also sells several modells of ALPS Potentiometers for Audio http://www.ampslab.com/accessories.htm In short, ampslab.com is a good resources for Home Diy Audio Builder. And what I know he have very good amplifiers/stuff at his small company. Lineup

I was thinking an Antek 64V 1000VA toroid An-10464 as my TX, and I found some Caps,, CD-13n computer grade jobs, 160V @ 18,000uF. measuring 80 X 140mm.....quantity ????Five per channel?
A simple massive power resistor for each toroid switched in as a "start"....limiting start-up surge.........shunting by the resistor in the "on" position. Are we in the ballpark? ___________________________________________Rick... .... |
