Please Help Diagnose Yamaha RX-V1000
Hi Gang- new guy here- hope I have this in correct area.
I bought this over other receivers a number of years ago based on the service life of my A-700 Amp(which is still running flawlessly) a few years ago. For over a year- the Volume control hasn't worked well- I could turn it and get no change in volume or in the LED Readout- yet the remote volume worked. A few months ago- I began having issues when powering on- only the right side would have sound until I cranked enough then left side would kick in. Last week I sprayed some generic switch cleaner in behind the knob(there are a number of holes that I thinkgo into the POT). Immediately the volume control started working(relative to sound change and LED readout). I STILL have the issue with only right side on powerup. This morning I bought some Deoxit(the twin pack from Radio Shack) and tried it doing the same thing. I let it sit 2 minutes, then kept rpaidly changing volume to try clearing up any oxidation. Still have the issue. Again though- once I crank up volume to get sound from both channels- I reduce volume and get both channels at normal volume. I pulled the cover off the receiver and look inside expecting to see a big POT, but can't really see anything. Based on the solder points on the back side of the board- it appear to be something small and mounted directly to the board. Am I wasting my time trying to clean this? Should I just send it off to United Radio(in Syracuse NY)? Could this just be a Volume control replacement? Thanks Chris |
