Cyrus II or PSX supply for the Squeezebox?

Hi

for a few months now I have a SlimDevices Squeezebox 3 (SB3) feeding my 1989 vintage Cyrus II + PSX amplifier & Linn Nexus speakers, providing a considerable improvement over my aging CD player.

The Squeezebox supply is a source of common complaint, and I was looking at the various alternatives reported on the web, when I realized that the SB3 was sitting on top of two power supplies, namely (1) the decommissioned supply in the Cyrus II and (2) the unused 18V regulated CD player output of the PSX.

Now, would it make sense to modify either of these to provide +5V/1A for the SB3, rather than buy or build a dedicated supply?

Some of my reservations, are a negative effect on the Cyrus II sound, noise from the PSX, dated LM317 based design, and thermal issues.

What do you Cyrus II experts think? Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Torfi
