MOSFET thump and panic!!

Well I removed and checked each device. They all seem ok. Interestingly on the J50s the Source to drain was 3ohm Whereas on the K135s I was only 1.6ohm.

The secondary voltage was ok. Same both sides.
I did make one extra test. Before I took it apart, I removed all of the primary fuses. This should have left the source voltage at zero, and on the good channel it is. However on the bad channel I have 7volts. That can only have come from the 83V.

My woman is suggesting retiring it. Since reliability is a key thing, I'm starting to agree!

yes there is a difference with the j50 and k135 this is normal, also the readings obtained will vary with different type meters.

when you say the "primary fuses" did you mean the DC rail main HT fuses?
primary is the mains side of the transformer.

at this stage i would advise you to be careful with what you are doing, dont power it up again until the fets are soldered carefuly back in and reassembled.
