Amp modules

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum.

Is there a list of amp modules or designs that are available. I was hoping for a sort of an index thread.

My expertise lies in speakers but I have built a few amps in my earlier days. Now my eyesight limits me to using prebuilt moduls and I want to build something big.

hi mate .ive built and can offer my impressions of the following amp modules
greg ball ska gb300 .easy to build and doesnt need a massive powersupply or big heatsinks as its very efficient ,its a little finicky with setting the bias however . but once set its fine .its the most natural and best sounding amp ive built,its also the best value for money ,just watch your heatsink size as if its not just right you will cook it .
aussie amps nxlsp400..great amp and is very rugged it does require big heatsinks and powersupply,s to work though.bias is rock solid once set .its a very revealing but at times a little too digital sounding .it comes with both ballanced and unballanced inputs and loudspeaker protection as standard
aussie amps nx400 synergy..good modules and nice sound .somewhat in between the above two,in sound qaulity .easy to bias and hook up .
aussie amps nvx200 ..im about too build and will have some listening impressions soon .i hope the above is of some help cheers

In the
Chip Amps forum
you will find projects using LM3875, LM1875 and LM3886.
These are very good power amplifiers in a Module IC, integrated circuit.

They have some pins to connect to input/output and power.
The popular name for these easy to build amplifiers
is Gainclones
You need to put them onto heatsinks, make a power supply
and add a few resistors / capacitors.

I'm after something more than what a gain clone can do. I intend to replace the amps I have now. Yamaha M70, Yamaha M80 and 2 Carver M400.

A new speaker project that is in the design stage will require three amps per channel plus centre and rears plus 2 subs. That's 12 channels!

Can't find gb300 in the list of members, what name did he use for the amp.

Reads like you'd be better off with Mr Greg Baila's GB150D instead of the biggy 300, maybe even for the subwoofers.
The GB150d is a pretty little amp that's surprisingly good for it's size and cost and you can derate it to a 50W output level.
More sensible imo for a 12 channel setup, for 50W/8 in AB you can even skip half the number of output devices.

Thanks for all that help. I am looking at Greg's GB150D. Price is good as is power and quality. It helps that he provides them fully built since my eyes are no longer compatable with electronics.

I too would like to see and hear from Guru on this Forum. I learned quite a bit from his contributions.

Those changes include a mod that I personally found making the bias setting a lot easier, I'd agree with an earlier post that it was a little tricky before but on the GB150 latest incarnation it was a breeze.

You'll enjoy it
