Hi!

We've just experimented with rod's schematics of the balanced driver & receiver. http://sound.westhost.com/project51.htm

WOW!!! I never thought such a simple circuit works that good! Really amazing! We used some unshielded speakerwire to transmit the signal (in total more than 50 meters), with no kind of noise!!
To get some noise, we used some cellphones and turned some of the wire around a hairdryer: the only thing we could measure with the scope on 5 mV/div were some very tiny peaks of 1 mm.

What would it be when we'll use some very good shielded audio-cable??

I'm very impressed with the result!!

best regards,

HB.

Balanced interconnects

Yes, balanced can make a big difference. Even the cheapest implementation.
There are specialised chips for this eg SSM2142 transmitter and SSM2143 receiver. These have superb CMRR which is obtained by laser trimmed resistors on-chip. They won't break the bank either.
They are good for at least 500m.
BTW the linked schematic has rather high output impedance. Pro cable of any length will cause some losses.

Cheers,

Hi,

I understand that Rod is just about to release PCBs for this project. I will be using them in my (under planning) project, and the pcbs are sure to be of the highest quality (like the other boards I have already received).

Rod said "about a month", about a month ago - look for the anouncement on the site.

Cheers

Jon
