Hello, Can anyone tell me why the Meridian MCD has a On/Standby switch. I find it a little irritating to have to leave it on standby all day, when i'm using other gear plugged in to the same socket. Can I rewire the switch. I wondered if it needed to warm up to operate well or if there was an intention to supply a remote??. Also anyone have any idea where I can download the manual?? This is the best cd player iv'e ever heard and it's donkeys years old! Thank you for any help. Barry

There is plenty of info if you google it. Unless it has valves I dont understand why they have a standby switch unless it is to save the laser and/or motors. The info says 1984 so I suspect its something to do with the laser. I believe the lasers dont last as long if they are constantly powered up.

Hi Nigel, thanks for your help. Phillips, I beleive, were using the same laser assy in there CD100 and CD101 and they never had standby. About the only info I can find on google is the stereophile review. Thanks. Barry

Hi, my first post. I've repaired a Meridian MCD and it sounds wonderful, but there is a loud switch-off thump when I disconnect the power.
I downloaded the MCD user manual from hifiengine and it says "If you wish to unplug the MCD during an extended period of non-use, be sure to disconnect the rest of the system before disconnecting the mains plug.". So the switch-off thump appears to be a feature, which is unfortunate, because it is otherwise an excellent player. Does anyone have a schematic of the MCD analog output stage? I have a Marantz CD63 service manual, but the MCD is significantly different and has no muting relays. |
