Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if it would be possible to design a class AB audio amplifier which is powered directly from 220V AC via a diode bridge. (and obviously rather large capacitors...) For example Rod Elliott's project 117 uses dual rail 135V. [http://sound.westhost.com/project117.htm] If one would modify this to work with a single rail 270V DC supply, would this transformer less option be viable? Many transistors (including the MJL4281) can support up to 350V, so the maximum voltage ratings shouldn't be a problem...Any comments? Regards, Rene |

Indeedy-do. This sort of thing is DEADLY DANGEROUS. Although I have no personal objections to a Darwinian cleansing of the gene pool, inevitably it's someone other than the constructor who gets electrocuted. And I hate the idea of the inevitable lawyers shutting us down for allowing people to discuss things we know are insanely dangerous.
