Hello,
I hope someone will find a moment to answer my question. I am a beginner in the field of electronics and even with information found in other threads I have a problem too figure out secondary output/power rating of two power transformers by Marantz. I was given by my friend two transformers, which came from Model 2238 and Model 2220 receivers by Marantz. They differ in physical size and secondary output connections. Both have single primary. I do not know which transformer came from which receiver. The larger one is marked as: "TS19609010" and "2607 ZE". The smaller one is marked as: "TS18502020" and "23V2Z". The first question would be their power rating and output voltage. I understand the output voltage I can measure but I would need help with VA rating. The second question is about connections. Like I mentioned before, they both have single primaries, but with different insulation colour coding: larger trafo is marked as red and light brown; the smaller one has light brown and dark blue wires. Outputs are more...complicated: the larger transformer has wires: pair of orange, pair of yellow, pair of green, and single grey. The smaller trafo has wires: pair of orange, pair of yellow, one dark blue, one white, one green, and one black. Oh boy... that would be all I do not know what type PSU was used in those receivers: dual or single. For sure, they were solid state receivers. I would like to use those transformers, which by the way are in perfect shape, for my future amplire projects. Is anyone familiar with those receivers? If no one can help me what would be the best way to find the info about them? Thank you very much for the help !!!!! I will try to attach picture of both trafos. |

The 2238 is suitable for a 38W/ch amp, the 2220 is 20W/ch.

If I recall correctly the yellows are the ones that feed the power amp with marantz trannys. I think the models you stated are single rail types that didnt have a center tap for the yellows like the larger 2270 and 2285 models. The grey wire shold be a center tap for both green and orange wire sets. These fed power to the tuner and preamp sections.

Thank you very much for the responses. In this case I will measure voltage between yellow wires.
One more question, which I should ask before. If I understand correctly, transformers are directional. Any of the secondary wires have markings. Is direction important in this case? Can it be checked? Thanks |
