All the motives for using silver bearing solder include either physical strength, higher melting point or environmental/safety issues. Supposedly, all Japanese manufacturers are switching to lead free solder, so if you think silver makes amps sound bad, you're out of luck because that's all you're going to see (or hear) in commercial amps in the near future.
***In accordance with forum policy, I must warn all of you that eating, drinking, touching lead and snorting solder smoke may cause birth defects, reproductive problems and just plain retardedness. If you believe silver joints sound better, you may have ingested substantial amounts of lead already. Do not use lead solder to cure headaches, spice up bland foods, or to floss your teeth, it's just bad mmmkay?*** |

The soloution is intended to be tin/silver solder, and in my experience this sounds quite fine, and it is lead/tin/silver solder that sounds bad. Quote:

Actually, lead crystal is perfectly okay. It's safely tied up as lead silicate.

In the situation of whisky decanters, lead leaches out of the glass, and whisky drinkers using lead glass decanters were shown to have significantly higher lead blood levels. Eric.

Well I know I'm safe because I don't drink whiskey, much less do I drink it out of crystal, so there!
