I have access to a Amber 17 pre-amp if i want it. wondering if anyone has any 411 on it. if its worth anything, sounds any good etc??

Sounds like the late 70's Amber stuff. Decently built.
Sonics: No. May as well be listening to the poorer sounding US/Japan made Marantz stuff from the same time period. Amber is slightly better sounding than that, but not by much. Let's be honest. It's OK, if you've never heard anything other than 'dross' in your entire life. Just about anything done/designed/created on this board is going to sound better. If it's free, take it. But don't pay much for it. It's gonna need a complete rebuild (caps, etc) just to sound OK.
