I am looking for a schematic for a solid state pedal. I want to refrain from using any IC's if possible. Preferably something with a heavy metal type tone. i looked into tubes and am not crazy about a 300 volt power supply and the high cost of tubes. I really only want a minimalist schematic. any help will be greatly appreciated. Please remember I am a beginner here.

There are sooo many out there...use a search engine.
If you are beginner with perserverance enough to hunt down rarer components, build a Fuzz Face clone with germanium transistors. Not a trivial task, but worth it. |

I've experiemented with distortion effect a year and a half ago and found a few interesting things.
For the simplest I recommend the tube screamers(wich have nothing to do with tube but anyways thats is name) Diod clamp does not really yield a good sound. Fuzz clone with silicon trans are not very good but i'Ve not tried alot of them. But still very harsh and unpleasent.

The best homemade pedal (soundwise) i've built was a Big Muff. Big, thick, chunky fuzz, you just gotta love it!
