Default Outboard Sound Card for Laptop Analysis Station

I'm thinking of getting a used laptop and configuring it as an analysis station using True RTA and Dr. Jordan. Can anyone suggest an outboard USB sound card with sufficient quality to work with these programs?

RME has firewire interfaces that have SOTA performance I believe. Echoaudio Audiofire line of products are very good as well.

Of course the choice depends on what you will measure.

Is there anything that TrueRTA can do that DrJordan's WinAudioMLS can not do?

I took the trouble to look at the Dr. Jordan website, and one of the sound cards they recommend (among others) is the Emu USB outboard unit, which is not too hard to find. I happen to have both True RTA and Dr. Jordan. If Dr. Jordan will do True RTA's job too, all the better.
