Hello all,
Just purchased a few 2SA1943 2SC5200 and cracked a 1943 open to verify its authenticity.. They are attached - any opinions?

Seems large enough, I'd be more worried about the 5200

Yeah, die size looks fine.
I was surprised to see that Digikey has stock of over 4000 pieces of real Toshiba parts, both polarities. I thought they were no longer being made, but the accompanying datasheet is dated Nov. 2006. That seems like a safe purchase. Nordic, I LOVE that avatar. I crack up every time I see it...Todd |

Authentic Toshiba 2sc5200/2sa1943 are current production and widely available. There are a lot of fakes also, and in many cases the fakes are more expensive than the real ones. It's the 2sc3281/2sa1302 which haven't been produced for years and are almost all fake. The counterfeiters prefer to fake the latter pair, because there's no competition now from the real thing.
The pics at the beginning of the thread show authentic devices, IMHO. |

Not true.
Had experience...just yesterday with this devices. I had a 3 sets of 1943/5200 and everytime i would try to softly start up the output stage of my amp it would blow. finally i decided to purchase this devices form another source. i wanto to say right away that with this devices i did not have any problem. Also, i want to outline that the bad devices measured with my tester (fluke 115) on diode position proved to be allright. Differences on the outside: as the first pic posted here the bad devices had the writes barely visible whilest the other one had a clear write. I don't know if the guy here has the same problem the only thing is to try them up to their SOA limit and see if they can handle it. One last thing: from the picture, thought, the silicon area seems to be big enough.
