Question Kenwood Model L-07

Does anyone know something about this amp?

I know it`s 150W/8ohm monoblock`s from the 70`s, but does it sound any good at all in todays standard?

Is it worth saving, can it be modified to sound good?

What would it be worth?

Yes I am a curious on old amps ;-)
Regards Dan M.

The one I know about is Kenwood L-05, which had very good reviews on Suono. This Italian audio magazine was one of the best audio magazines in the world back then. Now it is not, as probably all audio mags nowadays.

The L-05 technical measurements were superb, as well as listening comments.

I have the circuit, published on that article, and I think I did send it to this Forum.

Would love to know about other models too. They are certainly worth modifying with better parts and updating.

In "Popular Electronics" January 1981 they wrote about this amplifier as follows (Kenwoord L-07 MII) -

"We heard no magic quality to the sound from a pair of these amplifers, but they are easily as good as any others one might name. The .014usec rise time we measured places reponse well into the Mhz range, and it must be noted that the IHF IM distortion was the lowest we have yet measured."

They measured -
Harmonic dist <.01%
second order below -96db
third order -90db
IHF dynamic headroom 1.25 db
IHF slew factor >25
Input sensitivity for 1W = 80mV
Signal/Noise was >90db.

The schematic has Jfet imputs, hightly regulated diff-amp and
the ouput section contains (3) each of 2sc2337 / 2sa1007

I heard one of these a few years back and it was a nice sounding amplifier as long as the speakers were >= 8 ohms. It has a nasty current limiter when you get down to the 2 ohm range if I remember right.

We had a pair of these (or the 05s) in the hifi shop when they were new. Quite a respectible amp. Very high build quality. Not quite up to the best of the american and brit amps of the day. These could well be a collectors item nowadays so i wouldn't want to gut it to put another amp in it without checking out what they sell for.
