I have done a search and looked at the sites it came up with but all seem out of my price range or are not what im after. I only found 2 sites.
Just after a few links to companies that sell diy amplifier cases.

yea most are pretty expensive,

found some cheap 1ru/2ru cases, metal sides, aluminium front.
Can be modded to look nice...

currently the 1ru is on special $45, so cheap as you can get without buying the metal and bending it yourself...

Oh yeah the altronics ones...why didnt i think of that. I'll definately check them out, i have a catalogue around here somewhere. There pretty close to me too just might have to go visit them.

what ru did you order?, and for what amp you building this for?

Interested, as I have been looking at the cases, but not really sure how they are on inside, or wether 1ru or 2ru would be better...

I'm guessing you mean by ru the rack unit size. I got 2 of the middle (think thats full size) and one of the larger ones.
One is going to be a cd player, second is a passive preamp and the large one is for my old toshiba libretto (mini laptop)http://www.silverace.com/libretto/librettocontent.html

Gonna build one hell of a touch screen mp3 player out of it...

As for the inside build quality etc...i will let you know once i go pick them up (should be monday or tuesday)
