With the cathode of D2 connected to the emitter of Q2 instead of the base, no frequency compensation and a woefully inadequate VAS load (R9) I'd say likely sound not good.

It's a bit confusing, but I guess it is a classA variant of this principle :
The VBE multiplier (Q12) has steady voltage drop. The value will be the same as = VbeQ2+VbeQ4+VdropR22(10ohm). If adjusted properly, it will make a CCS system for R22 (there's always current passing thru R22)
D1+D2 is a limiter, imagine it is not conducting.
Simple but smart principle, makes the output stage never turn off :D (at least above the paper, never built it)
