when an american says: "where in the world ..."

then his world usally stops at the mexican border or the atlantic sea.
beyond that, it not much worth to see or bother for ;)

so I have a wild guess:
you went to Michigan.
where I think most swedish people .. millions .. settled

Lineup - expects the first real cold in couple of days
they say will be -30 C up here in north sweden

* same as -22 Farenheit inside USA

:D
Yes it is in the US, but Michigan is way flatter than these parts. It's a stop along the New River. This river is actually very old and flows north from NC through Virginia and WV then makes it's way to the Ohio and eventually the Mississippi. Thank God it isn't -22 here, you can keep that cold, my blood isn't as thick as yours....:clown:

Back to the subject of ugly amps, I've finally been able to work on my latest amp. So far, so good.:D. I have everything working properly up to the output follower stages. (There are two identical output stages that are 180 degrees and balanced that bridge across the speaker.) The jumper allows you to select between a balanced input OR a single ended input, and the output is always balanced with 0 VDC wrt GND.;) Anyway, I designed the output stages such that I have to nearly build that whole circuit in order to have everything bias out right.:irked: Oh well, guess I have to build it all anyway to see how it works.:)

I don't have the WIMA 1uf polypropylene input caps yet, still on order. Get to that later....... this may end up being just a stepping stone prototype leading to better things.

Due to some circuit modifications needed to make it work properly, it still has some "ugliness" to it. Signs seem to indicate that I may in fact get it to work properly. If it does work, I may start a thread on it.

Forgot to mention it is the continuation of this Ugly amp, which by the way is still working perfectly to this day. I'm listening to it right now, 1 year after being built. What's the average lifespan of your ugly amps?:D

without really gettin' very closer to the core of it, or get de'hang of it all

True, Theo404
life of an anplifier depends on how we care and manage such an ugly thing

Some folks get "Bugged" by people going round and round in the same circles, like a perpetual merry-go-round.
The giff i posted is so small that it looks like a car on a race track, but if downloaded and opened it's a cockroach bug.

Just a "small" joke, like a smiley, shouldn't look that disrespectfull to some, same goes for the other remark after Syn08 had altered the giff.

(i shared classes with someone from our royalty, despite him being an engineer some people don't even grant him the light of day : here
Also merely meant as a bit of fun about the credibility of "engineers" )

 More pictures of Normal Ugly (but good) AMPS!
PLEASE post a picture of your NOT so well looking AMP!

---------------------------------------------------------
Of natural causes, it is only the most "beautiful amps"
that get pictures posted. They are running the SHOW.
But surely they are only "the tip of an iceberg".

95% of All Good Great Sounding DIY-amps are REALLY Ugly.
Made up of materials recycled from scrapyards.
And simple chassis of thin, 1-2 mm Aluminium.
No fancy LEDs or Knobs.
---------------------------------------------------------

I want to see more of these AMPS.
More of the DIY everyday reality.

I could bet on that the amps that SOUNDS best
built by diyaudio members, are not very exceptionally looking....

/lineup - has only built crappy looking amps

============================================

Just in case you forgot the topic
This was my declaration when I started it .. way back
Sure had no idea it would be popular by normal members
.. only had my little hope

Lineup ugly _ Class A amplifier

:)

This one is not exactly pretty
Picture was taken during testing and trimming days

- Class A
- Separate discrete Lineup Tracking dual Regulator psu for The voltage amplifier
- Output stage has got its own, bigger, Transformer
- Two extra 'added' electrolytics capas to improve ripple rejection

Image ..
is a bit overexposed .. too much light
but I think you all can get how this amplifer works
Sweet and good at Class A around max 4-5 watts out
At least in my speakers ( SPL= 92dB )

Enjoy!

Above are new, this one is old.
My last version of BJT prototypes, 2005. Discontinued, but my friends wants to buy it with various price, I say "no". Because it is ugly-good work. Using A1111-C2591 discontinued driver. I am still use it until now.
