Default NAD 3130 left channel dropping in and out as I turn the volume control

I just picked up this NAD 3130, sound is great at a bargain price.

Click the image to open in full size.

However as I turn the volume control the left channel drops in and out.

I'm new to fixing audio equipment and am assuming this will simply be a dirty volume pot. Is this likely?

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to remove the plastic knob on the front of the amp to get to the pot to spray some deoxit in there?

The control has a balance control in the centre too - I tried pulling the plastic but its not coming so far.... Do i have to open the case up?

Also the left channel may just drop out occasionally, a quick fiddle with the volume gets it back.

Any pointers on where to find a new green plastic power button cap would be good too.

Squirting in the shaft is probably not going to do it, get the lid off and attack it right on the track.
