Default Did i ****** my NAD volume control?

I sprayed deoxit into a little hole on the front of the NAD 3020 volume pot (knob removed) to fix a tracking problem. Now if I turn it up past about 11:00 the right side kicks in at full volume, like it's not attenuating at all anymore. oop! it's fine at this volume for a bit and I think I'll grab an alps control off ebay or go to rat shack, I just want to learn from my mistakes. What did I break?
thanks!

2 of the most common failures in 3020s is the power switch & the volume control. I'd suggest replacing it.

It is probably a step up from what is in there now.

I got that control, installed it easy, it fits and works fine. Only trick is there's no provision for the loudness control, which I never used, and it's a 50Kohm whereas the original was 500Kohm. I just use the muting switch.

thx for the help!

Are you sure... the service manual specs 20k (and that is what i've pulled out of dead ones). 50k is fine.

Hmmm...the old one was oriented funny, meaning the little tab that goes into the hole to hold it in place was on the other side so the control was upside down. Maybe it was replaced once before (I got it used). Still, the new one needs to be almost all the way down without the mute, for it to be listening volume. Go to 9:00 and your windows are blown out.
