Have any of you guys out here assembled AKSA amps ?
The designs seem to attract lot of respect from the audiophile community. I have never come across even one negative comment about them.
This new design which is christened 'Lifeforce 55 / 100" is apparently his best effort so far and it is getting fantastic reviews all over. There are people who have upgraded to this amp from many a branded Audio jewelry.
I wanted to check on the thoughts about them by the DIY community in general.
Looking forward to your thoughts.

Search for AKSA
There are considerably many topics!
form past years as well as from 2007.
With people posting very good reviews of Lifeforce

No doubt the Lifeforce Amplifier Kit,
designed by our friendly Hugh AKSA Dean from Australia
... is one the best Amplifiers he has done.

And he has done many, many through the years, published/unpublished.
He is a mature and real audio man - with focus on Da Musik :)

My Advice:

Glad to hear, you backup my opinion, Charlie Boy

My Opinion:
by logic and observation what others say
(for what this is worth,
I think, if your eyes + ears and logics are good,
you may come a long way,
seeing things from a sideview, less subjective perspective)

Carlos Opinion: Inside Information
... this brasilian amplifier lover has actually built and listened!

... and when he tells you this his conclusion
... you should know he built '1000 amps' and listened to as many

Warm here :) :) today
Up here we have a short summer ( 5-6 months without snow).

This is really something!
Short but intense & precious, this is our summer period.

lineup - knows about losing summer and miss it

Carlos
by your words I can feel like this: :cloud9:
at least for a short while

You know we human kind of animals
... will not ever stay content and satisfied for very long
... to enjoy ... and be happy is a very difficult art
I do not know how is AKSA .. but in this respect,
I guess he is like most of us:
Looking for something else, for something better.
And better is often more and more :$: :$: :$:
and other death objects around your self

Lineup, Carlos,

I'm rarely around here these days, although I do read the posts and appreciate the friendly comments, thank you both!

The problem is that I'm worked off my feet at present, and this forum has become the chosen arena for far too many highly academic arguments, which do nothing to improve real world amplifiers.

Essentially, after having a couple of messages ignored by a mod, I've given up, which I am assuming was the intention!! Too much time wasted anyway, so it's not so bad.

Cheers, enjoy the Swedish summer!! It's getting very cold here.... can't ride my bike in this weather, dammit......

Hic!....hic!

Yes Line up

We are always searching for wonderfull things.. even better things... i think this is the reason why we do not feel intirelly happy, because we are always having desire related something material.

Material things are great till you unpack them and start to use...in a matter of days you will be (ME) perceiving weak points, failures, non perfect things.

We are this way..... and i think this is something very bad for us.

Better if we remove those material needs.... unhappy moments are connected to material things...when we need them we will be in troubles..for sure.

Carlos

I built my AKSA in 2004 and I have built several highly regarded amplifiers since. Nothing comes close to the AKSA for involvement and it's music making ability. The way it presents music just suits me and my partnering equipment.

I haven't heard the Lifeforce which has received plenty of raves and I believe builds on the AKSA but my 55N+ will remain as I have stopped searching for something better.

To top it off even further, Hugh's instructions and support are second to none.

Total winner in my books.

It would be interesting to see how the Aska would stand up next to a Leach design. Professor Leach's designs are hard to beat.

I must build a Leach !

Ditto to what Rabbitz said except change 2004 to 2002.

Absolutelly no chance for Leach Amplifier, at least to the smaller one

I have mounted and tested....it was dismounted and forgoten.

Sorry...but the true is thrully a truth.

Well, my ears true, of course.

Leach lovers do not think so...obvious!

But i had compared...and leach folks maybe not.

Also they will say that i have not used that transistors Mr. leach suggested..the board was not yellow, the speaker was not JBL...well..they may say a lot of things.

My Aksas received bad treatment, polarity invertion (did not burned nothing!), i have tried many different transistors and sound excelent with everyone...circuit makes the job, not only special transistors.

Lifeforce is even better, also perfect for instruments and will make Mr Meterings and Mr. Scope very happy, ...also Mr. Spectrum Analiser and others..... perfect precise, deep bass, nice trebles, live performer, enormous dinamics as can beat a 100 watts unit even beeing 50 watts (rated)...precise.... something near the technicall perfection.

Aksa 55 has some Romantic sonics, yeah, some tube alike colouration, some deepness, a vivid, alive sound stage, brigther trebles...i travel into our deepest dreams...to fly away following the music waves...the maximum sonics experience.

This is the difference.

We have to taste things to have sure.

Carlos

While Hugh is around again... I hope you don't mind me asking, but how do you manage to run your amps without emitter resistors, especially the 100W models with parallel devices? Do you match output transistors in your kits?

Hi richie00boy,

The emitter resistors are there, they are mounted under the board. There are also a few other components mounted on the copper side, about 8 or 9 in total on the AKSA 55.
