I want to use encapsulated torodial for my amp
but if i order from the manufacture the answer is

Minimum quantity order is 100 pcs

And for the best industries, the price is 4 X the original price

Let we look from Jacco Vermullen Posting
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=46626

Why not fold a metal plate and cover the toroid with it ?

Saves looking for expensive pans, easy to fasten to the chassis, and you could have them done in SS.

My guess would be that you experience hum despite the same layout because the orientation of toroid magnetic fields is not constant.
The wiring around the core may not be exactly the same, the tension of the cable wire may differ, or the core differentiates.

I suppose the hum is not caused by toroid vibration ?
The look of resin molded toroids i like a lot, epoxy resin has excellent qualities for toroid molding ;
no mechanical vibration and vibration induced hum, better heat transfer from the transformer than through air, and a steady groundplate for fixing the toroid to the amplifier chassis.
I have used alloy outdoor cooking pots to mold toroids in.

A shame that MU metal has become so filthy expensive, i still have a bunch of cinch plugs with MU metal outer tubing.
As far as i have gathered MU metal is the only material able to shield magnetic fields highly effectively, MU metal foil worked wonders on the moving coil phono stages i built.

Simple encapsulated

For this encapsulated we must order 100 pcs

This is letter reply from one torodial manufacture

--------------

Dear Jeffry,

unfortunately we cannot supply this transformer:

We cannot meet your size constraints: an un-encapsulated 625VA transformer will have a finished diameter of around 140mm & an 800VA transformer will have a finished diameter around 160mm
We only encapsulate up to 625VA (encapsulated size 147 x 90mm) & the minimum order quantity is 100 pieces
We do not supply with plugs
The addition of a screen & low noise will mean an increase in dimensions
We are not interested in supplying with blue cable

Please try Plitron in Canada

so what for they give this

My Reply

Why they not stock and sell to us ?

----------

Hi ... ( Edit )

I have space in my amplifier, when i look your choice in diameter so i think
why i dont order with smaller diameter. For blue cable and plugs because i
look that so cool in your website. This is just fashion, no need so urgent

I need 2pcs X 625va with Primary Voltage 230 VAC and output 45V secondary
winding, and its ok with encapsulated size 147 mm x 90 mm.

Terry i have a few question
- If i buy torodial from you, do you sell this encapsulated casing for me ?
- What is type of encapsulated alumunium or plastic ?
- If somebody make encapsulated casing, can you make encapsulated
process join with my torodial and casing ? Im in no hurry, i can wait
I will pay you first and wait untill all process finish

For the payment are you receive paypal, credit card or just transfer ?

Thank you for your response ( Edit )

Best regards
Jeffry Widjaja

Until this day they not reply this letter
ahhh ... you just buy 2 pcs is very meaningless

Jeffry,

on request, a couple of the toroid manufacturers will sell you a steel toroid transformer pan.
Plitron in Canada does, Amplimo overhere does, the cost is moderate.
The epoxy resin market has matured, there are plenty of manufacturers and suppliers.
It's easy to obtain a thermal resin from a specialised epoxy resin supplier and pot the toroids yourself.

Hii ... Jacco

Thank you very much to reply
sorry if i wrong to spell your last name

If i want buy with a steel transformer toroids pan
is the same product with encapsulated ?

if i want make it myself, can you give me information
about resin, how to use it and where to buy it ?

And the best thing wheres the website :D

Sure,no problemo.

you bumped into a theoretical epoxy resin expert with hands on experience, i've even made vacuum molded epoxy resin airplane parts a long time ago.
Just send me an email.

The doc who treated my allergy is named Widjaja, he's the leading allergy expert overhere.
Not related, by chance ?

THIS is the one i started using +2 decades ago.
Someone on the Dutchy audio forum handed me an adress of an epoxy resin supplier nearby that's cheaper.
The same guy who handed me the idea of potting toroids in 2 pans.

Would something like this fit your need? It is slightly off from your specs.

http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/setpage...a-bin/dyndok.pl?lang=en&vat=0&dok=2021854.htm

I think these are custom made for Elfa and can only be ordered from them. Elfa seems to ship internationally though. However, maybe there are other suppliers closer to you who also custom order similar products? Have you tried googling for such products?

Hi,
I think the potting and/or casing whether metal or plastic is irrelevant to the double insulation standard.
I further think that the vast majority of double insulated equipment exceeding 15VA use exposed toroids.
I shall go further, the non-metal potting/casing is of no significance to radiated fields.

There should be a reduction in external (radiated) mechanical vibration after potting, but I suspect a decently designed anti-vibration system for suspending/supporting the transformer will be more effective. Or put another way:- bolting a vibration prone mass to a nearly flat metal plate is guaranteed to be audible.

encapsulated

For the Elfa the dimension is to big for me

For the scuro max output is 40V

thank you for Christer and juergenk

For Epoxy Resin
Is all epoxy resin is thermal resin ?
Is this a way out ? I hope much

For metal / plastic casing
Where we can find / buy the casing ?
Or we made it ourself ?

Encapsulated Toroids

Recently I had Plitron build me five ecnapsulated toroids that were based on a standard voltage and wattage size (90VCT at 625 VA). The cost differential over their standard part was modest (approx 35%). I chose encapsulation for esthetic reasons, but it may also decrease the amount of audible hum. When running, the transformers are inaudible unless you put your ear right onto the case. Plitron was easy to work with and delivered the parts in approx 3 weeks from receipt of payment. They have a good website (www.plitron.com) that describes their standard toroid specifications.
