" The only problem with MAT04s is their small 40v breakdown voltage, which limits your supply to +/-20v. Either you add a current mirror, or a cascode or just use them in parallel for the input pair." - carlmart

Yes, if the MAT04's base sits on the -20V rail

By the way, parallelling does not helps too much when to voltage is too high....

Question be a drain - or - be a source

I disagee. The input stage is just the subtractor. Even with a perfect subtraction the amp's output will not be a perfect, enlarged copy of the input. Getting the subtractor to work accurately is important but not very difficult compared to the rest of the circuit.
All details have some importance.
So, where is "the heart" of your power amps?, traderbam.
Do they have any heart at all?
So, you do not pay much attention to the input stage?
You think the output devices are more important?
Well, we all have different ways of designing.

How easy to be critical and turn down what other say.
I am glad there are positive people at this site as well.
And if you break down the opinion of another,
give your own opinion in that place.

So, lets hear where traderbam, the critical man,
consider the heart of his amplifiers is situated.

/halo - some people drain - others are my source of joy & inspiration

traderbam is not very far from my ignore-list
and that list is not EMPTY, I tell you!

Default Ignoring is bliss

I cannot think of anything I'd like more than for you to ignore my posts. Please add me to your "ignore" list immediately. Thanks.

Of course not. In this case I suggested pralleling to improve noise in the first stage. I thought it was implicit.

Aren's FET amp

Let me know what you think...
This is a design that used a CMOS inverter as input and driver stages. I did this approximately 15 years ago, while working on a project that required a lot of CMOS logic ICs.

The design is sound in that an inverter is essentially an inverted open-loop op amp. While the sound isn't top notch, it did work.

Hi ,
very interesting schematic, have you build it, or only simulations? how does it sound?
I am looking for a class AB that sound very smooth.

Cheers from France
