Good Day,
enclosed find my first Howto. Its about my setting up a X-over with a Laptop, open Source Software and one 7.1 AV-Receiver over DP / HDMI.

With this solution you can activate two 2 Way or 3 Way Loudspeakers without need of any additional hardware.
If any comments please feel free to contact me.

Nice. I have done 2 way (MTM) active with Mac Mini / pro audio interface, and it works flawlessly.

Works now, thanks. Good instruction!
Now I just have to check if all the software you are using is available on ARM architecture, so we can set something like this up with a low power Raspberry Pi, for example (think fanless and headless).
I remember Charlie Laub doing something similar with LADSPA plugins:
LADSPA-plugins
If I recall correctly, he had trouble getting multichannel audio out of the RPI HDMI port, so had to use an external USB sound card. That was prior to the RPI v3, so maybe things have changed with the new model.

@ Dcibel
I tried Odroid C2 ODROID | Hardkernel (its S905)
but also up to now I could not get multichannel working.
Buts a nice piece to play with.
I installed ubuntu and android in multiboot.

Hi Loafmeat
I like your approach.
I have never owned an AV receiver. If I was to buy one, what would I need to check to ensure the audio over HDMI could be directed to the correct drivers in a 3 way system Plus Sub?
Cheers
Bobby

Hi Bobby
I think you only need any standard 7.1 HDMI AV receiver for 8 channels.
I bought 2 years ago an used ONKYO TX-SR605 for under 100 Euro at ebay.
Example: ONKYO AV Receiver 7.1 HDMI 1.4 FullHD in Nord - Hamburg Langenhorn | Weitere Audio & Hifi Komponenten gebraucht kaufen | eBay Kleinanzeigen

Which used HT + HDMI receivers with 5.1 or 7.1 amplifiers are the best for implementing this crossover interface?
Which used HT receivers with 5.1 or 7.1 amplifiers support an independent analog input per amplifier?

I been getting a few HDMI receivers for almost nothing since they only do 1080P.
This would be GREAT for a Home Build.
Anyone got any videos of their setups? Would be cool if some folks showed of what they did and what can really be achieved with this method.
