Two things. An input buffer stage to connect the signal ( if they can be high ) and a sound card. The sound card can be internal or external.

Look up the support page of ARTA to see the device they suggest to connect the sound card. Also check up Pete Millet's web site to see his input buffer stage . You can simplify it if you want.

Most input-stages are not protected. Has anyone come up with proper protection yet?

Check ARTA's measurement box and P Millet's interface. Both are protected.

Hi,

Right now I have a very unfavorable exchange rate in my country so I'm looking for a cheap sound card that allow me to use the free version of Arta.

I want a card just good enough to starts a little sound lab which will grow along my studies, don't need to be a definitive one.

That one will meet these criteria?

You need a sound card that can record stereo so it needs to have 2 input channels

No, that is not true. ARTA can be used for 1ch out, 1ch in. What you need is a "full duplex" soundcard, meaning one that can play and record at the same time.

I used an M-Audio Firewire 410 for many years and, although it needs a firewire interface, you can find them for very little money now. In general, many of the interfaces designed for home recording can be used for speaker measurements, and many come with a mic preamp. The Firewire 410 was cheap and reliable for me, and you can buy inexpensive Firewire interface cards for your PC. I used it with a calibrated Behringer ECM8000 mic. Don't bother getting a non-calibrated mic since you have no idea if your measurements are accurate.
