Yeah I use dots too. This is very strange as it works fine for me...

Oh, an I have also tried all possible settings of the check boxes beside Start Area, End Area, and Taper Ratio.

What Precision setting do you have for Length? What does it go up/down in?

Length unit is centimeter, precision is 1

Ah.. its something to do with the Length Unit.
I get the error if I use centimeter, but not if I use meter. (In settings -> units)

Just need to find the bug now...

While I'm thinking of it, it would be nice if one could engage the split line while the right element is selected. As it is, the left element must be selected to engage split, a non-obvious behavior.

Just to be clear, I mean that split should be accessible from either of the left or right elements.
