For what system.

Pad shapes and dimensions are dependent on soldering process.

Follow the guidlines in the IPC-7351 library and you cant go wrong. The most land patterns within the spec are suitable for wave soldered SMD components, though these days the number of SMD components suitable for wave soldering is diminishing, assembly is preffered using the 'selective soldering' process.
It is a well developed standard, that covers all aspects of SMD land pattern design, patterns that have been tested and used on numerous boards throughout the world by numerous companies. Plus all the work has been done for you, especially if you can get hold of any of the inteactive tools. |
