they must have some sort of 'loop' where the small plastic ties can attach themselves to the base, and hold them in place. I believe I have seen them before, but can't remember where.

We don't have the wood case at this moment. Don't you worry about burning problem?

My guess is that the top deck is metal, like other cases. It probably just has a glued veneer top, which would scorch rather than burn if it got unusually hot.
