bench equipment recommendations for newbie - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hello, I'm just getting into diy guitar electronics. So, I have a multimeter and soldering iron(s). What other equipment do I really need? Yeah, it's a big broad question but I have to start womewhere. Oscilloscope? What min/max specs should I be looking for in an oscilloscope that'll work for audio electronics(guitar effects and amps, noise, wave shapes, etc)? There's lots on Ebay. What should I be looking for? What other equipment will I need? Build or buy? Thanks for the help!

you'll need a signal generator -- the Heath IG18's or 5218 were very good but have become a bit pricey -- a power supply like a HP6205 is good to start with, particularly if you are going to work with opamps -- when you start building higher power amplifiers you will need a bigger supply. Used Lambda power supplies with equal or better ratings are also out there -- I donated a bunch of these to an EE lab at my alma mater.

Heathkit or Eico stuff was pretty good quality -- and almost every single part can be replaced (unlike the pricier HP and Tektronix stuff.) Additionally the manuals are readily available.
