new batch of mini Aleph amplifier and PSU boards - Click HERE for Original Thread
BrianGT
I had another batch of mini Aleph amplifier boards made, and power supply boards to go along with them. They are the same as the last batch and details on the boards can be found here:
http://diyamps.com/aleph/

This time, the boards have a black solder mask, white silkscreen, and gold plating.

As with last time, the amplifier pcb set is scored and easily breaks into 6 individual pcbs: 2 main amp boards, and 4 output device boards. The main board will work in the mini-A configuration without any output boards, or in the Aleph30 configuration with the use of the output boards.

I will put the boards up for ordering tonight/tomorrow morning on my website.

Pricing:
Amplfier pcb set: $9
Power supply board: $9

Shipping will be via USPS Priority/Global Priority, and will be $6 for US, and $11 for International orders.

Looks very nice !

If you see this, than why not order a set ?? let me think, do i need those board ?? no ! but they're very nice

Very Nice Brian

I think ill have to order a set to just have a set, I'll then have the red blue and red-smd now black/gold :)

To bad you don't use the ones we built when i was there.

The PS boards are beautiful! I'm considering a bunch of these for other projects I have going.

Any rough guesses at the current capacity of the PS boards?

Also: I checked the website and couldn't find a PS schematic. I'm having trouble visualizing how one bridge is fed by two two-wire AC inputs? I can see either a single three-wire, but not two two-wire inputs.

Thanks!

The 2 in the middle can be shorted if you have a 3 wire transformer.. I used a 3 wire and a 4 wire.. With the 4 wire transformers you can twist the 2 together and make it a 4.. Want me to post a picture of the bottom of the board ?

batee
The bottom view explains what's happening with the AC inputs. It appears that they're already shorted via the connecting trace. That was the part that I was missing.

The rail traces look quite wide, so they aren't a concern to me. Do you think the traces between the AC input pads and the diodes will support 10A? 15A? I suppose that if there is space for six 3W resistors, and I use the leftover .47Ohm Panasonics sitting on my shelf, they would support 15A. I don't have a part number in mind, but think I've seen some fast diodes in a TO220 package that support 15A.

Thanks!

Bryan

15A what are you building ? thats a-lot of current.

Naw, a 500VA 20+20 trafo can push over 12A. I don't think 15A is too much to ask, and if you doubt the traces, you could always jumper over them too. I bet you'd be fine tho...

Man, if I didn't already have enough alephs I'd jump on this. They look great and the price is right:)

Does anyone that's built one have any idea what caps they're intended for? Or what the size and lead spacing is?

Bryan
jleaman
I think it takes the panasonic Snap in cap's I can get briangt to post the parts express number.
twitchie
You can order the boards from www.chipamp.com not the aleph diyamp link posted above.

I have a Plitron 625VA 18+18V transformer pushing over 17A through one of the blue boards in an A30, and it hasn't melted a hole through the chassis yet, so I think 15A is safe (disclaimer: your mileage may vary)
batee
Thanks, that's what I wanted to know!

Any idea which Panasonics fit it? I'll probably use the largest 35-50WVDC caps that'll fit (whether I need to or not). I'm just trying to figure out what cost for those is going to be.

On braingt his site he posted a excel sheet for the parts with partnr of digikey

I've done some searching on the panasonic site an came up with the following:

Digi-Key_________type________panasonic part#______can diameter

P6887-ND_____10,000uf 25v____ECO-S1EP103DA_____30mm
P6914-ND_____10,000uf 35v____ECO-S1VP103EA_____35mm
P6922-ND_____22,000uf 35v____ECO-S1VP223EA_____35mm
P6940-ND_____10,000uf 50v____ECO-S1HP103EA_____35mm
P6946-ND_____22,000uf 50v____ECO-S1HP223EA_____35mm

Al the panasonic caps that begin with ECO-s are 10mm pitch lead
source: panasonic site

look for "large can catalog" and "dimensions specifications"

Sorry for the confusion. I put them on the Chipamp.com order page:

Everything seems to be fine for that order page. I will update the link on the Aleph page.

The panasonic caps listed (and shown in the photos) are TSHA caps - the digikey numbers for those are in the excel spreadsheet

I used 22000uF 35V caps P6671-ND I think - I have the 15000uF caps as well P6668-ND.

There were some posts buried in some threads recommending the TSHA caps.

Yeah, I am amazed myself at how good the black ones look. I have had a set on my desk since the boards arrived, and I am still amazed at how good they look. I had them next to a set of the previous blue boards, and set of the previous red boards, and the black is clearly my favorite. I think that the gold helps my decision also :)

I have almost all of the pcb orders shipped out, and will ship the remaining ones out by the end of the week.

Wishing you all good easter weekend, and best of luck on your projects!

After putting aside the boards to fill all the current orders, I am out of stock of the Amplifier PSU boards for future orders. I will place another order for them on Monday. I didn't expect them to go this fast. I still have plenty of the mini Aleph pcb sets left.

I need at least two... Better mark me down for three!!! Received the amp PCB's, they look good.

I just got one question. What is a good source for the IRF9610's? Digikey.com wants 1.01/per at 400 for a minimum order...

nevermind, I answered my own question...

Any chance you have a wiring diagram or schematic for the A-30? I have a set of your older blue boards and don't have a reference for how to wire up the Mini A board to the power boards, don't want to fry anything!

It's no longer posted on Pass Labs site for some reason, and I can't find my old copy. :xeye:

BTW, the amp boards arrived today and I have to confess the black boards are really sharp. I think they are my favorite of all the different colors. I wasn't planning on ordering more PS boards as I have a few of the blue boards, but I have changed my mind. You can put me down for 4 sets of PS boards.

There are a lot of resistors to find prices on, does anybody have a rough figure for the total parts listed on the Excel files? The PS looks like there are $63 worth of parts...does this sound right? (I chose the dual mono caps)

A total figure would be nice...I don't think that the aleph and output boards will cost that much.

The package shipped out at the same as when you received the tracking number. I am not sure why the website has not updated the information. The standard arrival time is typically 4-7 business via USPS. I would expect it to arrive by the end of the week.

Hello Sonny,

Your order was received on the 15th, and shipped out the 17th. It generally takes 5-10 business days to get to most international locations. Occasionally it can take an extra week or so due to customs delays. I have not shipped many packages to Saudia Arabia, so I don't recall any specific delivery times. I'm starting to think he should just refund you, you must live in a area that has bad postal service.

Jase
koenigmarkus
Jase,

I 've sended a few mails after you call him and made the offer, that, after the pcbs arrived, I pay the half price again, because I thing its not his or my fault, so both have only the half disprofit...

But I got no answer until today. I don't know, if he find some boards in his parts-bin and shipped them out and if, to witch address. That's why I ask again. Because he do not reply, if I send emails to him, I ask here too...

Markus

Btw:All letters from Bowling Green/ Kentucky/USA and Gridley/ California/ USA found the right path in my letterbox. The postal service can' t be so bad...

You could do that, however you must understand Brian has a family and a life. I'm going to recommend to him that he stops selling boards, some one else can take all there spare time and do it.

You must also remember you live in foreign country's where the postal services are slower, AND customs is picky with packages.it

It took me 6 hours to fly to his house, however it takes 5 weeks to have something from him mailed to me. Patience people. If Brian said he has mailed something to you , you will get it, trust me!
jaybombalous
as much as I have sent and received packages to and from foreign countries world wide over the past 2 years, I have never seen a package take 5 weeks to arrive anywhere.

Thats just really sad, 5 weeks. :( I'd ask for a refund too.

Hopefully the boards will arrive, I know how frustrating it can be waiting while your money is tied up in someone else hands.
koenigmarkus
Hi,

ok patience, no problem.

I don't know, how mutch emails Brian get at the day, but will it take so mutch time, to send only a short answer like : I'am busy, please wait, until I have the time to ship the boards out...?

I have no problem to wait, but I don't like to know nothing...

Markus
jleaman
oh, i guess you guys didn't think or take into consideration that brian paid out of his pocket to purchase all these boards that collect dust till some one wants one, BRIAN has spent numerous hours and hugs amounts of money doing this ALL from which came from his own pocket. PLEASE understand Brian does have a life now, I totally understand why he was talking about getting out of this, it all comes clear now.

I will call Brian in a bit and talk to him and inform him that his decision to stop selling should also be considered too.

Jase

EDIT: Just called his cell, he is out of town.
es44
Big surprice, Brian even has a job too to attend to ;)

No worries people, if Brian says he has send packages, then it's true. As others said, there could be lot of troubles on the way from him to you. Mail, customs etc.

Have patience, and remember, that He's done a great job with literally no profit just to make us all happy. And the prices are low too.

I am sorry, was out of the town with the wife for the weekend.

I do not know what the issues with these two orders are. They were shipped out, and show that the US post office received them, but they were never delivered, or returned.

I will refund these two orders.
