Pearl Phono Preamp - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi, I just finished building a Pearl Phono and love it. It sounds fantastic. I just wanted to know if I can operate this preamp with a battery? I have noticed there is a 9V battery connector on the board and was wondering what the purpose of this connector is? It does not look like this circuit would work with only 9V. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

The battery could be used to provide a 9.0 Volt DC reference, instead of the diode (1N4739), we are assuming that you used the diode, therefore the 9V battery position goes unfilled.
The Pearl will run from DC batteries, but that is not the intent of the design.
