I am going to order custom transformers for P-P GU-50 amps,
10K CT primary, 4-8-16 Ohm secondary, 100W power 30Hz-20KHz.
Also, appropriate power transformers will be ordered. |

I hope to get decent output trannies under $70 (plus shipment).
Power transformers I believe will be under $40 |
|

What is the rate of that THD to USD? |
|
|
| Cobra2 |
World rates: http://www.xe.com/
P-545 (80W-PP)=12 000 Baht => U.S. $ 373 (pair)
not cheap, but they compare themselves among the best.

| I am lucky I did not rush to order them: actually 5K CT is needed for 100W P-P amp using GU-50 tubes. |
|

| Oh no, sorry, my bad: error in calculations. Actually, 10K CT  |

Did you ask for custom-wound op-trafo? I guess they can make any size, as long as they can be kind-of square...:clown:

I've found a supplier. They want $70/each if I buy 50 of them. Shipping will cost another $560 to my address in California, so I'll have them in my garage for 81 + VAT.
Are you in for $180/pair plus actual shipment costs?
For now:

| Yes. Please also allow an ordering option for mono blocks (2 power transformers). What is the spec for the power transformer? |

120V primary, 285+285V 0.6A anode, 12.6V x 2 3A filament, 100V 0.1A bias
(GU-50 filaments will run from 12'6V AC, the rest from 12.6DC regulated)
I did not find a supplier for them yet, I want to order toroids. |

Do you mean 2 power transformers?
No, I do not need a choke, I will use IRF730 to regulate screen grid and preamp power.
Looks like there will be kits available including PCBs...

|

I mean op trafos, but might as well get power-trafos too...if they do 2x115V primary.
And pcb...

Ok, I am ordering output transformers from Edcor USA (they gave the best price/performance ratio until now).
They will cost me $77.80 each when I buy a certain party. Northern Californian DIYers may pick up, otherwise please calculate actual shipment costs from Walnut Creek, California (94597) +$5 packing/ handling per parcel.
If you want to pay using PayPal please also remember that they charge a money for a butter on their bread. Since I don't do business on transformers it means they charge you.
100 Watt 10,000 ohms Plate to 4, 8, & 16
ohms
40% Screen Voltage 20Hz~20KHz
Classic Push Pull Transformer |

Weight for each transformer is 11 pound (they are the same size, power and output transformers).
Power transformers (one per pair of output transformers, but you may order more for monoblocks) will cost $84.50 each for me.
Dual 120V primaries, secondaries 265-0-265 500mA, 12.6V 2.5A, 12.6V 2.5A, 60V 50mA (four secondaries) For a total 331 VA total power.
Please email me to arrange payments/shipments. |

Hi Cobra2!
Let's calculate some details...
If you want, say, 6 trafos for example, it will be 66 pound unpacked.
USPS wants $374.25 for Global Express Guaranteed® Non-Document Service
I don't know why USPS calculator did not give other shipment options, I think some slow shipment should be available, no?
UPS wants:
UPS Worldwide Saver
584.25 USD*
UPS Worldwide ExpeditedSM
466.55 USD*
I.e. they will cost you almost twice. |

| Also, I'm negotiating with some Russian manufacturers. They quickly go, but slowly harness. |

They promised to ship output transformers tomorrow. Now, I have another problem: where to find right power trannies?
Antek sells toroids much cheaper than Edcor wants for E-core trannies, but when I ask Antek about slightly redesigned transformers they don't answer...
Which another sources to try? |

Ok, ordering from Edcor USA:
Dual 120V primaries, secondaries 270-0-270 500mA, 12.6V 2.5A, 12.6V 2.5A, 60V 50mA (four secondaries) For a total 331 VA total power.

They are 2 per box, 21 lB packed.
Do you want me to ship them now, or will wait for power trannies?
They will be of the same size so I am going to draw layout and order chassis' with holes for 4X GU-50 sockets, 6x 9-pin sockets (2X6N2P+2x6N1P+2xEM80) and one 7 pin socket (0A2)
Front panel: 2 level knobs, 1 power switch, 1 ignition key.
Rear pannel: 2 TRS jacks for input, 2 TRS jacks for 4 Ohm outputs, 2 TRS jacks for 8 Ohm outputs, 2 TRS jacks for 16 Ohm outputs, 1 power cord socket, 2 fuse holders.
1U high, rack mount geometry.

Are you ordering chassis just for yourself. Any specs
and/or costs?
I wish to piggyback on your order.

Hi Bob;
I did not find a manufacturer yet. It seems to be too costly to order them in California.
Any suggestions? |

Biggest problem I have with DIY is the sheet metal,
cases, covers, etc.
Still looking for something decent that doesn't cost
an arm and a leg,

Arne;
they will be bright red.
I've asked for a quote for some chrome plated, waiting for the answer..
The chassis contains holes for transformers, for 4 GU-50 tubes in thin sockets, for 2x 6N2P + 2 x 6N6P + 2 x 6E1P + one SG3S.
Rear panel: 2 holes for TRS inputs (or RCA may be installed for Hi End version), 6 holes for speakers (4, 8, 16 Ohm for each channels) - TRS (for Gih End Chinese golden-plexiglass bananas may be installed, for 4 and 8 ohm only), 2 fuses (anode and AC), and one AC plug (rectangular).
Front panel: 2 volume controls, 1 power switch, one power lock.
Perforated bottom cover
Also, I will order optional mirrors between GU-50 tubes and transformers, for better look and to protect transformers from IR radiation from tubes and front and rear false - panels with lettering. However, mine will have Wavebourn marked on them, so probably you will need to order some for your taste.
