What opamps and circuit are suggested for amplifying a Squier Telecaster Custom guitar to line level for inputting to a PC sound card?
Some opamps I have considered are RC4580 and AD843. Is either one good for my application?

A TL071 or TL072 is probably the most popular opamp used for guitar amplifiers and preamps. You can also put together a simple discrete preamp using a JFet.

You can use pretty Much any Fet Input opamp ....The TL07x is very popular but I prefer the OPA134 as it is a Much Faster chip and sounds better to me......

Try useing sockets and try a few different types and use the one that sounds best....

They sell a kit that does just that.
Probably something like €20 $30 £15 max

Has the EHX lpb-1 (linear power booster) that'll do the trick also. It's marked as a beginner project. 14 components total. It's also great if you play through a valve/tube amp. Highly rekommended build.

Complete with board pattern layout etc
Absolutely free. If you dont wanna etch the board yourself they sell it for $8.
Hope this helps

well, IMO I beleave a simple buffer will do the best, but it sure depends on how hi the output is, and what sensitivity the line-in input of the soundcard has. When I had passive pickups I used buffer and the result was just fine. I used TL071, LT1115, OP134 and NE5532 and countless the LT all sound prefect, low noise...LT could sound just cool for that money, but it was too sensitive for the circuit andcomponents used, so it just oscilated...
but then I bought EMGs, oohh maan

Have you thought about if you need any effects, or just a
clean preamp?
