U/L or triode mode on music angel amp - Click HERE for Original Thread
arvin
I have upgraded and just bought a lovely sounding music angel kt88(sovtek) amp, it absolutely destroys my yarland 34 ciii, the stereo is 3d and the bass is much better. The sound quality is truly extraordinary.

Does anyone know what position the switch on the back has to be for each mode? i.e is the up position U/L or triode?

Which sounds better U/L or triode and why?

are there any better tubes that can be bought for this amp?

The other tubes are 12au7 and 12at7.

up for UL for mine, it is a nice amp... I am using shuguang kt88 (I love the sound) and I changed 12au7 and 12at7 to mullard.
mine was making a popping sound when i turn it off on UL mode, but after I disabled the UL mode, the sound is getting better (I have no idea why)
How about yours, is it making a pooping sound?
arvin
yes it does actually, the kt88s are by sovtek so you advise changing the input tubes to mullard?

How did you disable the u/l mode?

cheers

In order to determine which mode its in, if you are not sure of the switch position, in u/l mode the volume would be slightly higher for any given volume position?
aau70
Correct, when in UL mode it's 60 watt and in Triode it's 30 watt.
re. changing your driver tubes, it's depend on your taste, Mullard is more mellow to me. (I am listening to jazz and vocal most of the times)
Here is the thread on how to disable UL mode:

Flip the switch back & forth and you tell us :) Trust your ears.

Actually it will be dependant on your speakers to at least some extent -- and sometimes even the music you are playing. As a generalization -- very general -- triode mode will usually have the edge sonically at the expense of power.

can anyone advise on improving the driver tubes (12au7 and 12at7)?

Hi :D

I have redraw (with some change) the schematics of music angel.
(based on schematics posted by gingertube)

Now the values of the a.c. tensions miss me...

do I have to make some change?

Hi Gold. The 12AT7 cathodes don't appear to have a path to ground. Is that right?
