I bought a choke and it has a 3rd wire for the AC ground. this wire is not connected to any of the other 2 wires.
should I connect this to ground? does it have any positive effect?

Yes, just as you would/should chassis ground any power transformer.

Yes, the metal of the choke should be grounded. If mounting to a metal plate, I don't bother with a separate wire, I just make sure that there is metal-metal contact (not painted-metal-to-metal contact). If there is some reason why that can't be done, I just make a bonding wire with a washer style connector on the end so that the mounting screws will hold the wire to the metal. |
