This is a thread that comes around every now and then but I did some searches and it doesn't seem to have been brought up recently.
sub $300 new or used (ebay) price for a cd or DVD primarily to be used for audio. I'd like it as cheap as possible.
I'm capable of simple mod's and am good with a soldering iron but no good beyond simple interpretation of schematics.
I know some of you are at least as cheap as I am :D

Without doubt the Pioneer DV-575A (might have a slightly different end letter for your country?) An amazing sounding playing which also does DVD-A and SACD. Sounds great once left on repeat for a few hours first and even better with some mods. The internet is full of information on this little gem if you're adept at using Google.
