LM317 CCS Zen Style amp - Click HERE for Original Thread

LM317 Reg IC CCS for Zen Style amp I have not found on the web. I built a simple version and was pleased with the result. However, I do not have any test gear so I do not know its performance. I would aprreciate comments and obvious improvements if this concept is viable for low power Zen style amps. I take no credit for the circuit as its a combination of web circuits. Also my knowledge is limited, but its fun to experiment.

John,
Welcome.

A better picture would certainly help. If you can't do that, mail me the hi-res version and I'll post it.

I assume it is down these lines...

Should be quite a diffirence between brands, I noticed the other night, swapping out lm317's (looking for matched sets) I noticed that the voltage produced, with nothing else changed, varied in bands between manufacturers....

Maybe this picture will come out larger?

It certainly seems pretty linear as far as current delivery goes, I would wonder about the frequency response though, I used it as a CSS to drive the heater in a few of the Multi hybrids I tried.

Nordic,
Thanks for informative CCS info. Hybrid Valve/ Mosfet is my next interest after I understand Zen a bit more.

Here is the map after a little image processing...

Here's a source follower version from Headwize:

The hybrid is very close to the zen, basicaly one of those LM317 CCS on the pin to ground wich is then routed trough the heater to provide 150mA ... and on the front is the valve with a small CCS on the positive rail's side...

My next version I plan to keep the Zen output stage, but will add seperate 6V supply for the heater grid, regs are cheap enough.

Realy looking forward to it as my 9V headphone amp is giving me so much delight. and that is just an opamp voltage follower as an output stage.
