refurbishing a orion2150sx and the legs burnt off the FEN/FEP30 diodes...is there anything else i can use with suitable specs? cant find these for the life of me...in my country.

The positive rectifiers are easy to find. The negatives are much more difficult. This is the datasheet for a positive rectifier:

Alpine and Kenwood use large rectifiers that are rated for slightly less current. Those are one possible option for a drop-in replacement.

You could also use different rectifiers and hard wire them to the board. Not a perfect solution but it would provide as much capacity as the originals.

yep, those negative rectifiers are hard to find.

i have no problem hard wiring them , but when you say different rectifiers, do you mean mulitple 'parralled' lower amp rectifiers?

because finding that big negative 30 amp rectifier is like chasing a unicorn around here.

thanx

You could use two smaller negative rectifiers in parallel.

You could also use 4 MUR820s (2 in parallel for each half of the original rectifier).

If you use the smaller rectifiers, you need to insure that they are held tightly to the sink since they're slightly thinner than the original.

When you power it up, do so through a 10 amp fuse (in case you made a mistake in the wiring).

If you don't know if there are other problems, you can use a single, small negative rectifier for troubleshooting.

ok thanx... i suppose i could use the negative rectifiers from a 225 hcca, but parrallel a couple...i have a few laying around.

would it be ok to mix up a to-247 for the positive
and multiple to-220's for the negative?
Perry Babin
The positive and negative rectifiers operate independently so mixing them won't cause a problem. The two that you parallel should match. If you have two with the same date code, use them.
