Supertramp - It was the best of times (2CD).

Brilliant live recording that gets the foot going and has the atmosphere to go with it.

I am with Pinkmouse on that one. Superb album indeed:)
Also, if you like some bluesy stuff: The Robert Cray band, "Live from across the pond" Very good sound-quality.

Genesis; The way we walk (2 CD) ;)

Dead Can Dance - Toward the Within

- I enjoy this more than almost any of their studio albums.

Otherwise, have recently been listening to...

The Who - Live at Leeds (a classic)
Eva Cassidy - Live at the Blues Alley (this is VERY well recorded).
opp
Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington - Ella & Duke At The Cote D'Azur. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DDyMe3T9LA

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Endangered species.

Eva Cassidy "Live at Blues Alley"

Phenomenal vocals! Great band!

It sounds like you are there! You'll wonder where the waitress is.:D
schmalex
Wilco - 2 dic from Chicago - it's amazing. The latest Radiohead live album is pretty good too.

I'm just giving everyone a hard time, but with some of the suggestions above, I'm surprised someone didn't mention Frampton Comes Alive.
davidlzimmer
We can handle hard times! :D

PS. ssmith, Sorry, I didn't notice you had already mentiopned "Live at Blues Alley". That album "converted" one my metal head freinds!

I'm actually not a huge fan of Eva Cassidy, but reckon that this recording is worth buying just to hear how good a live recording can be. Her other recordings leave me kind of indifferent, but this one is, as you say, phenomenal.

Who live at Leeds- really a Time Machine, like been a 1970 student in Leeds.
Graeme Hancock
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus - 1978. Extraordinary recording or just a fluke, but who cares, it's fabulous.

Dave Grusin - NY - LA Dreamband - 70's ? Crystal clear resolution.

Rolling Stones - Stripped - 1994. Charlie Watts says this might be the band's best work.

Eric Clapton - 24 Nights - 1992. Gotta be the best version of Sunshine of your Love he ever did.

Roy Buchanan - Livestock. Some scintillating guitar work.

jackson brown: solo acoustic one
lousymusician
Taj Majal - The Real Thing. Not really an audiophile recording, but ya gotta love the sound of the four man horn section all playing tuba!

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones - Live Art.

Hi, yesterday I got that Supertramp CD and it`s pretty good. The first Songs I thought mmmh... OK ,but than it got real good. You wrote that there is a 2CD Version ,but I just found it as 1 CD. Is that a special one?

Penguin Cafe Orchestra When in Rome

Subtle stuff, but a lovely live recording at the Royal Festival Hall 20 years ago.

The better your system, the more you will hear of the live event. There is a lot of detail hidden on this CD.

+ I love the music. =)

There are 4 versions that I'm aware of.... EMI & Chrysalis.

Absolutely! I have the standard CD as well as the japanese Gold CD.

I saw the trio when they toured back in 1981 at the Beverly Theater in Los Angeles. Excellent concert.

PM, are you sure this is a live album? :) Maybe you meant Delicate Sound Of Thunder or Pulse.

I always look for the DVD video of live performances fist. Most DVDs less than ten years old will have 24 bit / 48K audio tracks = usually better than any of the studio work on CD (16 bit) and always superior to the live CDs because of that 16 bit compression.

Speakin' of Pink: Roger Water's "The Wall / Live in Berlin" is quite good. ( http://www.amazon.com/Roger-Waters-.../dp/B00009VTYE/ ) with huge array of guest players inc. The Band (sans Robbie) and Van Morrison (!) ... and you won't really appreciate Cindi Lauper until you see her in this performance = a real spark plug.

(Us old timers appreciate that this performance was done about 9 months after the Berlin Wall came down, right in no man's land! = >> 500,000 attended)

Loreena McKennitt: Live in Paris & Toronto

Loreena McKennitt: Nights from the Alhambra (although it's only on sale from her tour-stall at present -the rest of you will have to wait until the autumn) DVD + 2 CDs in one box

Peter Gabriel: Secret World (available as a DVD or double CD)

Rick Wakeman: Out of the Blue (the recording isn't the best, but the performances more than make up for that)

Rick Wakeman: Live in Concert 2000

King Crimson: Thrakattak

Cream - Reunion Concert Live at the Albert Hall
Blistering version of 'We're going wrong'
Beats that turgid 'unplugged' drivel by EC any day. Got to be his best work, well, since Cream originally disbanded IMHO

The wifey and I spent last night listening to / watching the "Concert for George" ... third time in two months. Eric Clapton's rendition of "While My Guitar Gently ..." is definative = just about the best of the best IMOP. The DVD Video has about 30 minutes of so-so stuff, unless you like Monty Python & Ravi Shankar ... the last 2/3's are fantastic ( http://www.amazon.com/Concert-Georg.../dp/B0000CEB4V/ ... this DVD is vastly superior to the CD version = too much compression).

Why RENDITION ? It was always him playing the guitar solo part of this one on the famous "White Album" !

Bonnie Raitt / Road Tested ( http://www.amazon.com/Bonnie-Raitt-...d/dp/B00005QJHJ ) ... the DVD has much better sound quality than the CD, 'cause the audio track is 24 bit on the DVD.
