I have 4 kicker solobaric l5 sub's they are the older model with the black cone. Kicker recomends 2.82 cubic ft per sub with a slot port 2 5/8" wide 12 1/2" length and 15 7/8" deep. Im gonna rub theese in a 99 yukon I had the subs running before in this encloser all pointing up and 2400 watts rms to all 4 . for running 4 12" subs they didnt seem that loud to me and yes the amp was wired up correctly im gonna try to fire the subs backwards this time but im wondering if anyone knows out there that has built systems with theese subs and knows if a better cubic ft box is what i need or is this one the best possible to get very loud?

well I figured since I have been in on the installation end of car audio for a long time I would do my best here to help, when kicker recomends the cubic feet for a sub as you know it means for 1, my first question to you would be for each pair of subs do you have each sub in its own enclosure ( a divider in the box seperating the subs) many subs act differently to there enclosure , for instance JL audio you can make a smaller enclosure eliminating the need for a divider letting the 2 subs share the airspace , but I have always noticed most kicker subs recomend seperate enclosures ( even the techs at Stillwater have told me this even if it says no need for seperate enclosure they recomend seprerate as this is how they get their readings when tested )
also when you made your enclosure did you take into account the amount of volume the port , and speaker take up in your enclosure , if you make a box to say 3cubes and you forgot to take into account the speaker and port vloume then when you make the box its not actually 3 cubes its smaller thus changing the sound of the finnished product. so my actual suggestion would be make a box dividing each sub to is own enclosure and port , and make sure to add the amount of volume the speaker , port and deviders take up and make the proper adjustments to your enclosure where needed to get the correct cubes. hope this helps.

hi thanks for the response i built the box to what kicker said adding volume for the port and sub and all subs were in there own chamber i was running a colossus xi 2400 watts rms to them a alpine pxah-510 eq an alpine cva1005 head unit the subs are dual 4 ohm i ran both sets in parallel so it was running at 1 ohm stereo dont know where i went wrong for 4 12" it was loud but thinking i should have way more output from theese subs maybe i will if i point them back towards the doors instead of firing upwards wondering if anyone has anymore suggestions thanks again

what face of the box are the ports and subs on?

with that power you should be hitting pretty good, and if your rearvew mirror is mounted on the windshield, it should have fallen off by now.

are you certain of your crossover settings? box sealed with silicone? 19mm mdf?

atleast 4 gauge wire running from the battery ( 0 or 2 gauge recommended for a run that long)

did you sand the paint away from your ground spot? where is your ground spot?

check the polarity of the subs, are all giving excursion in the same direction? just 1 sub moving in the opposite direction will cut the sound in half, when using 4.

check the battery acid level.

check the rca cables.

im building a new box and kicker says use 3" by 3" triangle braces at the seams is this a good form of bracing and if so will 3" l brakets do just as good?

it has to be pretty thick metal if your using L brackets.

But the L brackets will be better for airflow inside the box.

thanks for the reply. ok heres my next question ? kicker says build the box to 2.82 cubic ft per sub and after u put the port and sub in it will lower the box to 2.5 cubic ft. well without the port and sub in the box my box is 3 cubic ft per sub wondering if someone might be able to tell me how to lower it to 2.82 like how my braces do i need and what size?

The difference in the port frequency with a 2.8ft^3 or a 3ft^3 enclosure will not be audible. The port frequency will change by only about 2Hz. If you want the same port frequency, you could shorten the port by ~1.5-2"

If you use braces like the enclosure in the attached photo, the aifflow will not be restricted and the enclosure will be VERY well braced. This is best done before the enclosure is built. You lay the opposite walls of the enclosure on top of each other and drill them both at once. They will line up perfectly when the enclosure is assembled. Use 1/2" or 3/4" dowels. Be sure they will not hit the speaker or each other when you're laying them out.

were all the subs in phase? if you had per say three one way and one the wrong way you would notice a difference in the output. How are you wiring them into the amp?
mike49504
the subs are dual 4 ohm coils i wired the 2 voice coils in parallel and wired the subs together in parallel to get a 1ohm stereo load on the amp. AND NO my subs were not out of phase and all the ports were on the same side as the subs

ok thanks for all your guys help almost done with the box just one quick question kicker says the port has to be 33 square inches 2 9/16 x 13 if i make the port 34 square inches 2 1/2 x 13 3/4" will it screw up the encloser or will it make no difference please help any and all help will be greatly appericated

There won't be an audible difference.

If your enclosure is a bit too large (3ft^3 instead of 2.8ft^3), making the port a bit larger would bring you closer to the original port frequency (of you keep the original port length).
