Hello guys,
I'm selling 3 1200hz Smith Horns I made for my project, and that I don't need anymore.
Smith horns are large dispersion in the horizontal plan, and diffraction in the vertical one.
They sound really smooth and are especially beautiful with voices.
They are made of 25 mm thick (!) MDF, the heavier wood material, not the prettier one but the most smooth sounding one.
the woodsmith who made me some parts of these horns made a mistake and rounded lightly the end of the vanes as you can see on the pics.
I think this doesn't affect the sound at all and is beautiful.
They are black spray painted, and you can use them "as is", but you can also make any finish you want on them.
Two are perfect, the 3rd has a little traces of sandpapering on the lower face but it's just on the paint, not deep enough to be on the mdf.
I'm asking for 110$ each.
Please note shipping from France to USA became expensive.

Just curious, .. what kind of compression driver do you use on these smith horns to get down to 1200Hz and what crossover point do you use?

I was planning to use them with B&C De250 or the 1' BMS but I didn't had the time and the money.
Another thing is that I falled in love with fullrangers and now have a pair of Fe206ESRs.
I used down to 1200Hz their big brothers with JBL 2431H (those were 1.5' horns made of plywood and were about 1.5 time bigger)
They sounded magnificent.
I guess those should sound very very good, and in fact their cutoff frequency is under 1200Hz, that would have been 1200Hz if the lips haven't been rounded, now it's a little under;
I guess you can use those down to 1800-2000Hz without any problems. |
