Hi all -

Just finished my first gainclone amp. Bought the kit from BrianGT and the PS from Parts Express (2x22 250va). I've read a lot of threads on this board before starting this project and it all paid off. I finished without problems! Powered up and turned up the volume with no input. Speakers were dead silent even with my ear right next to the cones. Been listening to it for almost 2 hours now (jazz) and it sounds amazing. Used an old IBM PCjr computer for the case and it looks pretty cool.

LOL! thats cool. does the CD drive actually work or are you planning to make it work?

Thanks, I thought people might get a kick seeing this if they ever owned a PCjr. At the moment the CD does not work I put it there just for looks right now but I do plan to make it work. Cool thing about the PCjr is the add-on modules that were created for it. I will probably add the 2nd drive chassis and move the toroid and power board inside it then add a second toroid to power a preamp and CD player. I’ll place the preamp boards in the main chassis where the toroid is now. It will separate power from the main unit.
Right now I’m taking the advice of so many I’ve read here: ‘just build the amp and listen’
Modding can wait for now. Listening to Obscured by the Clouds – Echoes sounds amazing!

Here’s a couple more pics:
This is how I modified the drive assy. http://bellsouthpwp2.net/k/a/karlet/Amp/DriveBay.JPG
This is a second drive module

Here's a better pic of the inside. Nothing out of the ordinary. Star ground and chassis ground are on the same terminal strip but they do not connect to each other. Many post I've read said not to connect the amp boards directly to chassis ground. I followed their advice and added a 10 ohm resistor between each board and the chassis ground point.

Now you just need to build an aquarium into the monitor part...

I built this over 10yrs ago from scratch and it's still going strong. The fluorescent light was a nice touch.

...and no, I'm not putting it on top of the amp.

Am I not the coolest
