The thing actually works!
A big thanks to everyone who helped me with advice. The quality of the output is awesome for $100 of components.
As you see from the pic everything is a mess, terrible wiring that I'll have to redo and tidy, still to put it in the case but I've tested the beast and it actually produces music.
This one's for practice next time I'll take more time, use better materials etc but I'm amazed so far.

The wiring is funky but yours is much neater than mine what with it being point to point and all.
Congrats and you gotta admit, it's pretty stunning when the thing actually works. |

Hi Hotscot,
the heatsinks on the chipamps don't look at all suitable.
Do they meet the recomendations given in the datasheet/instruction manual? |

I just used what I had lying around and they do seem to work.
Finned aluminium 4x5 inches and about a third of an inch thick.
I listened for about four hours last night with no problems. Sound quality was great, volume pot worked fine, couldn't detect any hiss or hum at any point.
However just out of curiosity I'm going to buy a thermometer today to measure the temp.
