Good Question and what chips are in the box?

The Xitel has a Sonix SN11113F to convert USB to S/PDIF, and a VIA VT1612A audio codec.

Performance of the Xitel is so-so. The analog is bettered by the M-Audio Sonica (which is not so good in its own right). Digital is bettered by my own project based on the PCM2902. The one thing the Xitel has going for it is a coax digital output which is rare on usb devices.

Hmm... I think the PCM2706/7 has SPDIF out. I recently connected the PCM2706's I2S output to a TDA1543 and find it sounds better then the SPDIF interface.

I will try the SPDIF out and report back here. But in a day to two, my day job needs some attention.

Oh... where is my manners. I almost forgot. Thank-you for answering my questions.
