Please help with PassAleph P for bi-amp - Click HERE for Original Thread
Pass lover
Dear every body,

As a newbie in this forum, could you please let me know how to bi-amp the pre amp PassAleph P to 2 PassLab3?

My PassAleph P is a previous version ( without remote). There is 4 output on the left rear.

I would like to know if it is possible to bi-amp with my pre amp PassAleph P

Is it possiblefor me to use RCA out put and XLR out put at the same time? Anybody has ever been in this case???

If so I can bi-amp PassAleph P to : PassLab3 + other power amp which has XLR input??

Is it IMPOSSIBLE to bi-amp the PassAleph P?

I am crazy about the sound of PassAleph P

I am looking forward to your reply

Pass Lover,

Well the Aleph P is running either balanced "OR" single-ended at the output
and if you run it single-ended you have to use the "short"
on pins 1 to 3 on the XLR output's {so you can't use both modes}

*** there is only 1 possible output mode...

You can only use 2 amplifiers either balanced Or single-ended
but NOT 1 balanced and 1 single-ended...

Sorry.

One solution would be using a line splitter OR "Y" XLR connector cable
{1 input XLR ... 2 output XLR}
and on 1 branch a connector-adapter XLR to RCA
but you will have to deal with the output levels which could be different...

Thank you very much for your advice,

Another question is: (for single normal amp) will it gain significant improvement when I use XLR interconect for output from preamp , then connect it to RCA input on the PassAleph3( use adaptor)

Note in this case I feed the preamp by my CD player via RCA into input 1 on the PassAleph P

I would like to know if it is possible to feed the preamp by RCA then use XLR output on preamp to link to power amp

Please give more detail

thanks in advance

Pass lover,

I don't think so, you'll have to try, will depend on the adaptor internal construction
keep in mind you are dealing with 10 to 20 volts AC line signal there!
Ask the maker for details.

YES, you can use single-ended input and balanced output.
It's because of the differential pair MosFet used

I have a CCS-X-Bosoz made on the same design and it works
single-ended input's with my CD NAD
and balanced output's with balanced cables to the A75

PS: Read the apsevr10.pdf service manual and the AlephP.pdf
All these details are nicely explained by Nelson.

Regards.

You "Happy AlephP owner" ;)

Perhaps I missed something (short on sleep--as usual), but I didn't see any mention of an active crossover, something necessary in order to bi-amp.
There's no problem driving an active crossover from an Aleph preamp, either balanced or unbalanced. It will only take one pair of outputs. The question then becomes one of driving the amps from the outputs of the crossover. Since the high pass outputs are, by definition, separate from the low pass outputs, you should be able to hook things up most any old way that suits you.
Finding a balanced active crossover is another matter. Even the XVR1 isn't balanced internally. It tosses half the signal at the front end, filters the signal into high and low, then recreates a balanced signal at the outputs. Nonetheless, you can hook it up either balanced or unbalanced.

Dear Grollin,

Thanks for your idea,

However, could you please let me know if there is any great benefit when an active crossover was used to drive a built-in passive crossover inside the speakers?

My speaker : B&W P6

I would be grateful if you could show me where to buy a very good active crossover?

I am living in London UK

Thanks

Common every body,

In order to gain all potential improvement, should I open the speakers to remove their passive crossover before officailly put an active crossover ???

Which possition am I going to place an active crossover?

-Between Preamp and Power
-or between power and speaker

Please

no offense - but if you have lack of knowledge and xperience in electronics , as you show in another thread ,there is no way that you can in any way open your BW and do something appropriate.

in case that you have necessary knowledge ,you wouldn't ask this.

besides that-answer is yes; you need to open spks, remove everything un-needed and .....

hi passlover,

the major improvement provided by an electronic x-over is that u can omit the passive crossovers.
to keep it simple: ordinary the audio signal will pass preamp-pwramp-passive x-over-speaker. with an electronic crossover (which is placed between pre and power amp) the signal coming to the speaker will be filtered before the power amp and only the portion of frequency will be amplified that are used by the speaker. the signal chain looks like that: pre-electronic xover-pwramp-speaker.

Thank ijomojo,

In the chain: pre-electronic xover-pwramp-speaker.

Will I have to remove the passive crossover in side the speakers?

Please let me know which chain will be better:

(1)Pre-amp + Active Crossover+ Power amp + Speaker

Or

(2) Pre-amp + Power amp+ Active Crossover + speaker

Pass lover,

I think you have missed something,
If you remove the crossover in each speaker
you will need 1 amplifier for each HP in each speaker...

so as you have 3 HPin the B&W ==> 3 stereo amplifiers... total.

Are you ready to go further !

For left HP:
Pre-amp + Active Crossover+ Power amp left + Tweeter
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + Power amp left + Medium
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + Power amp left + woofer

For right HP:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + Power amp right + Tweeter
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + Power amp right + Medium
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + Power amp right + woofer

regards.

PS: At the actual state of your knowledge, Not a good move!
Way too much complicated, and will need a major investment
in audio control material, sorry.
Better find a good dealer capable of doing the job!!

Dear Alain Dupont,

I was wondering if you have ever thought about :

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/s...roduct_id/2218

In this case I think I would need only 2 power-amps for the set up:

Pre + CX2310 + Power1 for HF drivers left & right.

+ Power2 for LF drivers left & right

It seems to me there is not any difficulties to Bypass the passsive crossover the the speakers:D
