Godzilla said: "Keeping the price down + having fun + good sound = exactly what I want to be doing! The kiddies will love helping me build these monsters!
with t-amp + portable cd player… well, I think this will be a most impressive sounding second system!
who cares if it’s not perfect!"
Anyone have a suggestion with the el cheapo speakers (definition "<$15/each") and small cabinet that produce good sound?
thanks,

The Fonken, perhaps?

If you don't like the pricetag of the drivers (about 75$/pair + shipping), I'm testing some 4" FR drivers that, although 20$/each, can give decent bass down to 65hz in a BR enclosure, or so I've heard. |

Thanks for reminding me, I have ordered the drivers and will follow your suggestions. Not sure how to setup the electronics though...

These are too expensive but not terribly so.
I would buy the 871s without hesitation and pop it into a small ported box. The Aura looks cute too (i think i read somewhere it's a TB design... but not sure if that's true).
I worry my exposed TB Bamboo's will one day be destroyed by my kids or their friends... with the cheaper TB's i would not worry or care as much. And i bet they sound very similar.
An old full range driver project from way back when using 3" TB's:

What about the Del Sol's?
$10.50 drivers are hard to beat! |

Since you've already bought the drivers, you could also try Cyburg's needles. Very impressive bass for a 3" driver.
Not a bookshelf, though. |
