Hi all,
I'm investigation if it's possible to make a set of speakers just like the B&W nautilus (prestige), I heard those speakers play at the dealer and was mighty impressed by the sound but also the way they look, since the set was let we say a little over budget (ehehe far over infact), i'm wondering if somebody knows how to build a set of them or other diffreant looking speakers without loosing sound quality.
if i't sound silly or dump then please ignore this thread
Thanks,

WOW, that’s an ambitious project, I hope you have deep pockets and lots of resources for custom machining. I don’t think it’s impossible but for a DIY project it’s a huge task to come anywhere close to a true Nautilus clone. A 4 way speaker is difficult enough, but a 4-way with proprietary drivers and crossover topology is really a tough one. I’ve seen some one do a Legacy Whisper with good results which I thought was nearly impossible but it was not a true clone, you may be asking a bit much to expect the same sound characteristics and performance as the orignal. If you can find suitable drivers then your half way there, also the counter weights that attach to the drivers motor assembly would have to be custom fabricated and somehow affixed to the driver, and I think their crossover is a very specialized Active/Passive hybrid which would be very difficult to reproduce. Anyway when all is said and done it might cost as much to build as it would to buy, but good luck if you try this project you’ll need it.

this looks like the kind of project i am thinking of.i actually do have alot of cnc machines at my disposal, and an arsenal of talented people when it comes to casting resins and mold making.as for the drivers and crossover that is where i need alot of help, does anyone know anything about this setup?weights?

Its not remotely a cost effective design, and theres no chance
whatsover of second guessing the decoupling features IMO.
The Wilson WATT/Puppy is IMO far better as something you
could build, and argueably is about reality, not technicalities.

It also has bass the B&W would die for.

thank you for the feedback.i had been considering the watt/puppy.all i am trying to do is take advantage of the resorses at my disposal.how about a spherical enclosure,i'm sure it's been done but i don't know of one( i don't know much),would this be a better design.i really just want to build somthing that is not square.

Something similar to the WATT/Puppy could use an egg shaped top enclosure.
